When you commission an oil portrait, you will receive a piece of art that can last for centuries. Craig Rackley treats every commission with the same enthusiasm and level of detail regardless of the scope or price range. He welcomes private, corporate, or official, or gallery commissions. His goal is to exceed your expectations.
The price range for a single subject portrait is from $3.50 to $5.00 per square inch plus the cost of materials. The client is also responsable for any travel expenses (if needed), shipping (if needed), and any state or city sales tax (where applicable). There is no additional charge for Craig to do the initial and reference photography
Within this price range, there are several factors that will determine your final rate:
• Intricacy of clothing, jewelry and props
• The amount of the subject to be depicted
• Intricacy of and detail within the background
• Size of the painting
An additional charge will be added to the total commission price for:
• 25% - Each additional subject (human or pet)
• 20% - Pre-existing vintage, low res, or low quality source photo or scan.
• 10% - Pre-existing high res or high quality digital source photo
If you wish to commission a family or group portrait, or have any unconventional needs or circumstances, Craig will work with you to determine a rate that fits your needs as well as your budget.
Your first payment of 1/3 of the commission price is due upon agreement of your portrait specifications, needs, and signing of the contract. This portion of your fee is non-refundable.
Your second payment of 1/3 of the commission price is due upon completion of the subject’s photo shoot and agreement of the composition or, in the event of a pre-existing photo source, primary work begins on the painting.
Your final payment of 1/3 of the commission price as well as any travel, shipping, or tax fees is due upon delivery of your portrait.
If you have any questions or are interested in starting the commission process, please contact Craig Rackley.
